At least that is what I believed in till I read about the spoke less bicycle. This bicycle is the brain child of a few Yale University students (9 in all, and Mechanical majors too). This bicycle sports a back wheel without any spokes. Check it out yourselves.

Posted on December 17th, 2009 No commentsA few days ago I did some hectic riding on my bicycle and I felt great. However, since yesterday, I am feeling a slight pain in my knees which has me worried. Bicycle Basket
Posted on July 23rd, 2009 No commentsWhen ever I ride my bicycle, I always end up buying stuff – mostly groceries, but sometimes other miscellaneous things too. And it has been a hassle to transport the goods back home because my bicycle lacked a basket. There is a carrier / bike rack in the back though, but it is of little use for carrying vegetables and other delicate stuff.

Is riding a bicycle bad for your bones ?
Posted on July 5th, 2009 No comments
Some study indicate that there is a significant loss of bone density in professional bicycle riders. And it is a well known fact that these riders suffer from frequent fractures in their bones when they meet with an accident while riding a bicycle.New York Times blog has an article pursuing this very thought whether riding a bicycle is harmful to ones bones.
After providing pertinent proof of loss of bone density in many professional bike riders, the article goes on to say that recreational bicycle riders (I believe bike commuters are also included in this group) have little to worry. Here is a quote from the article.
Researchers suspect that drinking calcium-enriched waters or sports drinks during long, hot bike rides may help to stave off some bone loss. Even more encouraging, most recreational cyclists probably don’t need to worry too much about their bones. “The studies to date have looked primarily at racers,” Smathers says. “That’s a very specialized demographic. These guys train for hours at a very high intensity. They sweat a lot. They never go for runs. They don’t usually do much weight-lifting,” to avoid adding bulk. “They’re strange.” He knows. “For competitive riders, I’d recommend spending some time weight-training.”
Ordinary bicycle riders and daily bike commuters can take comfort that they are left out of the red for the time being.

How to restore an Indian Roadster Bicycle
Posted on July 5th, 2009 No commentsIf you are the proud owner of an Indian roadster bicycle, then you must realise that there are very little resources on the Internet which explain how to repair or restore these beasts of burden. In fact, if you type the search query “Indian Bicycles” in Google, you will get tons of useless links pointing to trade websites and nothing useful. Of course if you are living in India, you need not be bothered by this because every street corner has a bicycle repair shop which specializes in repairing these bikes. But if you are looking to repair your bicycle yourself, then you need some hand holding.
