How To Clean Up Your Hacked WordPress Site
Today when I visited this site, I got the shock of my life. Instead of my blog posts, what I saw was a static web page which stated that this site has been hacked. I immediately contacted my web hosting provider Bluehost.com and notified them of the same. Thankfully, Bluehost support staff were very quick in replying to my mail. They gave me tips to clean up my WordPress site and bring it online in the shortest possible time.
Here I will recount the steps I took to clean up my hacked WordPress site.
- Contact your web hosting provider. This is the very first step you need to take if you find your site hacked. A reliable web hosting provider will be quick to help you out with their support.
- See if you have a recent backup of your site prior to your website being hacked. And replace your site from the most recent backup. This includes your database and all your hosted files.
- Upgrade WordPress and install all the bug fixes if any. My WordPress installation was the latest so I did not have to upgrade my installation.
- Immediately change your admin password. Set a strong password that cannot be easily deciphered.
