Recently, I happened to visit the Kerala Bamboo Fest 2009 conducted by the Kerala State Government in India. The bamboo festival (Exhibition) had numerous stalls showcasing bamboo and cane products from various states in India such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, and Kerala.
In fact, in India, Bamboo products is a cottage industry and is strong in North-East India and South India. This expo which went on for 4 days from December 10 – 13 brought together a cornucopia of bamboo products all under a single roof. The products ranged from curios and wall hangings, to utility items and furniture. Not all the products were made using bamboo. There were some jute products as well.
The prices ranged from Indian Rs 20 ~ 50 US cents all the way up to Rs 20,000 ~ $500 USD. The following are a few photos I took of the bamboo products at the exhibition.
