Plants vs Zombies – A fabulous game

Recently I downloaded a trial version of a game named “Plants vs Zombies“. It is a Windows & Mac only game created by PopCap Games one of the foremost players in the games market.

The game play is simple. Your house is being invaded by zombies. If you let these  zombies enter your house, it will be game over for you as they will eat your brain. However to get to you, the zombies have to cross a garden in front of your house.

And fortunately for you, there is a collection of  plants of various sizes, shapes, and traits at your disposal which will fight your battle and keep the zombies at bay. It is your duty to place the plants in such a way that the zombies are killed before they reach the house. But there is a catch though. Each plant costs some number of suns. And before you can use a plant, you have to collect sufficient number of suns. The sunflower when planted provides suns which you can collect to use more powerful plants.

Your arsenal of plants include pea shooters, cherry bombs, potato mines, hypno-shrooms, starfruit, melon-pult and so on. Initially, you start with just a few plants – mostly sunflower which is needed to collect suns, pea shooter, and wall-nut. But as you complete each level, a new plant is unlocked. In final levels, you can choose from around 48 different plants.

Plants vs Zombies game survival mode

There are a wide array of zombies. Each zombie has strengths as well as weaknesses. For example, the buckethead zombie (who gets its name from the metal bucket it wears as a helmet) is known for its toughness. But its achilles’ heel is the magnet-shroom plant against which it is powerless. There are a total of 25 zombies plus the big boss of zombies namely Dr Zomboss.

The game play is fabulous to say the least. I had hours of fun playing plants vs zombies game. The rich tapestry of characters, vivid colors and ease of play (the game is controlled using only the left mouse button),  makes the plants vs zombies game a real winner.

Popcap games sells the plants vs zombies game for a mere Indian Rupees 199 ~ US $4 which makes buying this game a real steal.

One disappointment I have is that the game is available only for Windows and Mac OS X and not for Linux,  which is a real downer as Popcap has a history of creating fabulous games.
