My teeth – After a trip to the dentist
Looking into the mirror each time, I was appalled to see my teeth. They looked dirty with stains and of course plaque. But more than that, my tongue was rubbing against the plaque constantly thus causing some discomfort.
I had put off paying the dentist a visit for so long owing to the following reasons.
- I was a bit consternated on the thought of lying on the dentist’s couch and placing my life … or in this case my teeth in the dentist’s hands.
- Cost factor. I was not sure about the cost I will incur when I pay a visit to the dentist. I had the feeling it was not cheap.
Anyway, yesterday I finally overcame all my reservations, excuses and what not and finally paid a visit to my Dentist who was a beautiful lady doctor named Nishita.
The cleaning of teeth by the dentist – I found out subsequently – was a rather painless affair. I did feel a slight discomfort when the dentist ran the drill on my teeth to remove the plaque.
The visit to my dentist for cleaning my teeth cost me Indian Rupees 400 – which is around $8.00. Quite cheap don’t you think ? And the whole process lasted for 40 minutes.
This is how my teeth look after the cleaning. Don’t they look gorgeous.
A few tips from my dentist
These are some of the tips I received from my dentist for the proper care of my teeth.
- Brush your teeth twice every day. And floss each time.
- Visit your dentist every 6 months for a professional cleaning. This is to remove the tartar/plaque build up in between your teeth which cannot be removed by mere brushing.
- Dental cleaning will not damage the enamel of your teeth as the cleaning is done with a relatively soft tool.
- You may experience slight sensitivity while your teeth are cleaned. However, the process is quite painless (as I found out).

Actually, it isn’t a drill; it would be a pneumatic toothbrush, I believe.
Additionally, teeth aren’t naturally white, so I believe they should not be whitened with bleach or other methods… plus the thought of bleach in my mouth is scary. Cleaning makes sense though.
My teeth were stained from too many anti-biotics when I had the ear aches when I was a little kid.
5 years back I was also reserved about going to the dentist. Once the initial few sessions were done and over with, I now look forward for those!
