Correct breathing technique for runners
First let me concede that I am not much of a runner. Rather, I ride a bicycle for fun, pleasure and to commute. Having said that, correct breathing technique is useful in any sport – not just running alone.
There are 7 key breathing tips. They are as follows :
- Try slowing down before attempting to change your breathing.
- Focus on longer, deeper breaths.
- Breathe more from your belly than through your chest.
- Allow air to enter through both nose and mouth.
- Maintain a rhythm of 3:2 – Take 3 steps for every breath in and 2 steps every breath out.
- Focus on exhaling fully.
- Try not to over think your breathing.
