Correct breathing technique for runners

First let me concede that I am not much of a runner. Rather, I ride a bicycle for fun, pleasure and to commute. Having said that, correct breathing technique is useful in any sport – not just running alone.

There are 7 key breathing tips. They are as follows :

  1. Try slowing down before attempting to change your breathing.
  2. Focus on longer, deeper breaths.
  3. Breathe more from your belly than through your chest.
  4. Allow air to enter through both nose and mouth.
  5. Maintain a rhythm of 3:2 – Take 3 steps for every breath in and 2 steps every breath out.
  6. Focus on exhaling fully.
  7. Try not to over think your breathing.
