Bicycle Basket
When ever I ride my bicycle, I always end up buying stuff – mostly groceries, but sometimes other miscellaneous things too. And it has been a hassle to transport the goods back home because my bicycle lacked a basket. There is a carrier / bike rack in the back though, but it is of little use for carrying vegetables and other delicate stuff.
So recently, I decided to buy a good front basket for my bicycle. But when I made enquires, I found only one type of basket available which was suitable for my bicycle. It was nice to look at, but was a little on the heavier side. I preferred a light weight bicycle basket. But since there was little choice, I decided to buy the one kind available in the market.
This bicycle basket cost me Indian Rupees 140 – which is around US $3. I spent a further Indian Rupees 20 ~ US 25 cents to get the basket fixed on my bicycle. You can see the bicycle basket in the following photos.

The front bicycle basket is sturdy and rugged which is a good thing. It has a nice black coat of plastic which allows it to be used in all kinds of wet weather. More over, as bicycle baskets are wont to be, its body is a fine mesh. So any water that might fall within the basket while riding in rainy conditions will pass right through. The screws that came along with this bicycle basket were of inferior quality though, and I had to change them for better ones.
I could transport over 8 Kg of groceries in this basket with no trouble. At first I did feel a bit uneasy riding with a basket fixed to the front of my bicycle. But after some time, this uneasiness wore off. I believe bicycle baskets are a good investment for anyone who owns a utilitarian bicycle.
Bicycle baskets are much more sturdier and long lasting than say panniers or saddle bags. I hope to make good use of my bicycle basket.
