11 Most bicycle friendly cities in the world

Commuting to work or running errands on a bicycle is fun. It energizes your mind and has a lot of other positive benefits. But most cities around the world are not bicycle friendly. The ubiquitous bicycle has to jostle for space with much larger vehicles and many times, bicyclists are totally at the mercy of large automobiles.  But hope is in sight, at least for people living in a few cities across the world. These select cities have passed laws that dissuade people from using automobiles and which favor  bicyclists on the road.

Virgin-vacations.com has put together a list of 11 most bicycle friendly cities across the world. The cities were chosen for their pro-bicycling laws and how the civic authorities created exclusive bicycle friendly lanes for the public.

The cities in decending order of bicycle friendliness are as follows :

  1. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  2. Portland, Oregon, USA
  3. Copenhagen, Denmark
  4. Boulder, Colorado, USA
  5. Davis, California, USA
  6. Sandnes, Norway
  7. Trondheim, Norway
  8. San Fransisco, California, USA
  9. Berlin, Germany
  10. Barcelona, Spain
  11. Basel, Switzerland

Now those are cities where I would like to live …. if not, at least make a visit.
